Individualized Yoga · Yoga in the Tradition of TKV Desikachar
Classes are held MONDAYS and THURSDAYS 1:15-2PM Yoga in the Tradition of TKV Desikachar The goal of this form of yoga is to carefully integrate breath and movement, so as to bring about a deeper, more sustainable opening in the body and a calm state of mind. We practice slow dynamic breath-based movement sequences, which help to warm us up thoroughly, creating flexibility and strength. This will bring us to a point where the function of each posture and its many benefits can be fully accessed by everyone. Individual adaptations and variations of postures will be offered, making this class perfect for practitioners of all levels, from beginner to advanced. We combine various tools beyond the postures for maximum effect and well-being. About the Tradition TKV Desikachar, son and student of the legendary Sri T. Krishnamacharya, is one of today's most respected and knowledgeable yoga teachers and yoga therapists. He is the founder of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM), a government recognized Public Charitable Trust, located in Chennai, South India. The KYM is a leading institution in the field of Yoga Therapy, Yoga Studies and research. Hundreds of patients every year find relief from various illnesses and conditions through the one-on-one sessions offered by KYM's teachers. TKV Desikachar, together with his family, continues to spread the teachings of his father through lectures, workshops and trainings given all over the world, as well as through various publications (for example, "The Heart of Yoga"). What distinguishes yoga teachings in this tradition is the utmost concern for the individual student’s needs. The yoga practice is tailored to the student's current requirements and is particularly effective because the student's age, occupation, life circumstances, interests and capacities are taken into account. Adaptations, modifications and variations of postures and breathing ratios will be given to maximize the individual's benefits and minimize the risk of injury, making the practice useful, meaningful and oftentimes therapeutic for the practitioner. Guta Hedewig has studied the teachings of Krishnamacharya with TKV Desikachar and Kausthub Desikachar at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai where she has completed advanced yoga courses and studied privately. She is a certified teacher through the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation and is currently completing their four year long Yoga Therapy Training. She also learned Vedic Chanting at the affiliated Vedavani (Vedic Chanting School). Additionally, for many years Guta has studied Ashtanga in Mysore with K. Pattabhi Jois and with V. Sheshadri. Guta has directed Yoga Sutra’s Teacher Training Programs for several years. She works therapeutically one-on-one, creating Individualized Practices adapted to the student’s specific needs. She endeavors to create an atmosphere of the committed, in-depth study of yoga in all its aspects, based in the tradition of Krishnamacharya's teachings. Return to Styles of Yoga >
